Webmasters who have their websites in the Yahoo! Directory often complained about their outdated titles and descriptions being displayed in Yahoo!’s search engine result pages (SERP). This has negatively affected the clickthrough rate and/or ranking of websites of many webmasters.

However, since February this year all worries were over due to the introduction of Yahoo!’s NOYDIR meta tag. This tag will allow webmasters to opt out of titles and descriptions on the Yahoo! Directory. Webmaster can then optimize their web pages for titles and descriptions that they want to display in the SERP.

The format of the NOYDIR tag is,

meta content="NOYDIR" name="ROBOTS"

or

meta content="NOYDIR" name="Slurp"

Last year, Yahoo! introduced the NOODP meta tag which has a similar concept to the NOYDIR tag. The NOODP tag is a way for webmasters to indicate that Dmoz titles and descriptions will not be used in SERP.
